Indian protocol officer found dead in room at High Commission in Bangladesh

An Indian diplomatic mission in Bangladesh was rocked on Tuesday after a 35-year-old protocol officer from Haryana was found dead inside the Assistant High Commission premises in Chattogram, prompting police to launch an investigation into the mysterious death.

The deceased officer, identified as Narendra, was serving as a security protocol officer at the Indian mission in Chattogram’s Khulshi area.

According to the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, mission officials alerted local authorities after Narendra failed to respond from inside his room on Tuesday morning.

Police teams later entered the room and recovered his body from inside the premises.

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police said an unnatural death case would be registered and a detailed investigation would begin after the autopsy.

Officials added that the body would be handed over to the Indian mission once post-mortem formalities are completed.

Authorities have not yet revealed what may have led to the officer’s death.

The incident has triggered concern within diplomatic circles, with police yet to clarify whether any foul play is suspected.

Mission staff reportedly became alarmed after repeated attempts to contact Narendra went unanswered, leading them to inform local police.

Investigators are now expected to examine the circumstances leading up to the death as the probe gathers pace.
