These Rules & Regulations govern the conduct, responsibilities, and expectations of all members associated with the National Press Union of India (NPUI). By obtaining or holding membership, every member agrees to comply with the provisions outlined below.
1. Nature of Membership
Membership in NPUI is professional and organizational in nature. It is intended to support media practitioners through structured programs, identity verification, and professional networking.
Membership does not grant any statutory authority, legal privilege, or government-recognized press accreditation. Members shall not present themselves as government-authorized personnel under any circumstance.
2. Code of Professional Conduct
All members are expected to maintain high standards of journalistic integrity and professional behavior.
Members shall:
- Practice responsible and ethical journalism
- Ensure accuracy, fairness, and accountability in reporting
- Respect the dignity, privacy, and rights of individuals
- Avoid dissemination of false, misleading, or unverified information
- Refrain from engaging in activities that may harm public trust in media
3. Use of Membership Identity
Membership credentials including ID cards, certificates, and digital profiles are issued strictly for identification within NPUI’s organizational framework.
Members shall not:
- Use NPUI identity for personal gain, coercion, or unlawful activities
- Misrepresent affiliation for political, financial, or legal advantage
- Claim authority over public officials, institutions, or private entities
Any misuse of identity will result in immediate disciplinary action.
4. Compliance with Law
Members must comply with all applicable laws of India while carrying out their professional duties.
NPUI does not support or protect any member involved in illegal, unethical, or unlawful activities. Legal responsibility remains solely with the individual member.
5. Content Responsibility
Members are fully responsible for any content they create, publish, or distribute.
This includes:
- News articles
- Social media posts
- Videos, images, and public statements
NPUI does not assume editorial responsibility for member-generated content and shall not be held liable for any consequences arising from such content.
6. Respect for Organization
Members are expected to uphold the reputation and credibility of NPUI.
Members shall not:
- Defame or misrepresent NPUI publicly
- Use the organization’s name in unauthorized communications
- Engage in activities that bring reputational or legal risk to NPUI
7. Membership Validity & Renewal
Membership is valid only for the duration specified at the time of issuance.
Continuation of membership is subject to:
- Compliance with these Rules & Regulations
- Adherence to ethical standards
- Timely renewal where applicable
8. Suspension & Termination
NPUI reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership at its sole discretion in cases of:
- Misuse of membership credentials
- Violation of organizational policies
- Involvement in unethical, illegal, or misleading activities
- Submission of false or misleading information
Such actions may be taken without prior notice.
9. Non-Transferability
Membership is strictly non-transferable. Credentials issued to an individual shall not be shared, transferred, or used by any other person.
10. Data & Verification
Members agree to provide accurate and verifiable information during registration and throughout their association with NPUI.
NPUI reserves the right to verify, update, or revoke membership based on discrepancies or non-compliance.
11. Limitation of Responsibility
NPUI operates as an independent professional organization. It does not regulate, supervise, or control the independent activities of its members.
NPUI shall not be held responsible for:
- Individual member conduct
- Legal disputes involving members
- Actions taken by third parties based on member activities
12. Amendments
NPUI reserves the right to modify these Rules & Regulations at any time. Continued membership constitutes acceptance of updated provisions.
13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Rules & Regulations shall be governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of competent courts in Tamil Nadu, India.
