An Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru suffered a tail-strike incident during landing at Bengaluru airport on Wednesday, the airline said.
Flight AI2651, operating from Delhi to Bengaluru on May 21, experienced the incident while landing. Air India said the aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew disembarked normally.
The aircraft AI2651 was an Airbus A321 narrow-body aircraft. Sources said the incident happened when another wide-body aircraft had just taken off when the Air India flight was approaching for landing, creating wake turbulence. The Airbus A321 carried out a precautionary go-around due to wake turbulence caused by the large aircraft. The tail-strike incident occurred during the go-around at Bengaluru airport.
Air India said the aircraft has been grounded for detailed inspection.
“The incident will be investigated in accordance with established procedures, in coordination with the relevant regulatory authorities,” an Air India spokesperson said.
Air India also said the return flight AI2652 from Bengaluru to Delhi has been cancelled following the incident. The airline said alternative arrangements are being made to accommodate affected passengers at the earliest, while ground teams in Bengaluru are providing necessary assistance.
