Bizarre: Sai Sudharsan throws his bat into the wicket, gets hit-wicket in Qualifier 1

Gujarat Titans were rocked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League 2026 season on Tuesday, and luck certainly did not favour the Shubman Gill-led side at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium.

GT opener Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal perhaps summed up the team’s night best, after the batter ended up throwing his bat onto his own stumps in one of the most bizarre dismissals seen in IPL history. The incident was so unusual that many fans struggled to understand what had happened on first viewing.

Sudharsan’s wicket fell in the third over of the innings while facing RCB seamer Jacob Duffy. Attempting to cut a length delivery towards the off side, Sudharsan immediately set off for a run after making contact with the ball. However, the momentum of the shot caused the bat to slip out of his hands.

As Sudharsan sprinted towards the non-striker’s end, the bat flew backwards and crashed into the stumps, dislodging the bails. The batter was subsequently ruled hit wicket in freak fashion.

The dismissal left both players and fans stunned, adding to GT’s miserable outing in the high-pressure playoff clash.

1. Sudharsan attempted a cut shot off Jacob Duffy and immediately set off for a run.

2. The bat slipped out of his hands during the follow-through and rolled back onto the stumps behind him.

Since the dismissal of Sudharsan, Gujarat lost the plot. They lost 5 wickets in the powerplay, marking a new low for the franchise in the IPL playoffs.

Gujarat Titans were blown away by Rajat Patidar’s unbeaten 93 in the first innings of the Qualifier 1 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. GT were left to regret a costly dropped catch when Patidar was batting on 20 off 17 balls, and the RCB captain made sure Gujarat paid heavily for the mistake.

Recently returning from injury, Patidar looked in ominous touch as he tore apart the GT bowling attack and powered RCB to a mammoth total of 254/5. Once handed a reprieve, the batter shifted gears ruthlessly and never allowed Gujarat a way back into the contest.

GT failed to recover from the assault in the second innings and gradually lost their grip on the game as the massive target proved too much to handle.
